Many world class distance runners have a mantra that they will repeat to themselves when negative thoughts start to creep in or a run isn't going to plan.

One trick I like for when I don't feel like getting up and doing a workout is I tell myself that I'm going to get dressed, get out the door, and o my warmup. If after the warmup I still don't feel like doing it I'll let myself come back inside and skip. To this day I've never taken myself up on the offer to stop after the warmup.
